The students use of social media is not slowing down, thus teachers should redirect the student’s attention from using the sites for personal use towards using them for school related work. Students act very casual about putting personal information onto public websites and misunderstand the value their ideas and actions have to corporate social media.
"If educators are able to use blended learning concepts to facilitate their own professional development it is more likely students will benefit" - Darcy Moore

TEACHERS NEED TO REALIZE...

  • "On the Web, young people voluntarily provide information that advertisers once had to pay for."

  • "understanding of how kids and teens are interacting and using social media"

  • Kids like to laugh, show their true selves and be uninhibited across all platforms and teachers can use this to increase the students' motivation to learn
  • "Social media have revolutionized the way children learn about the world and communicate with each other"
  • In order to keep social media from becoming a distraction, to lower student privacy concerns, teachers must find a way to use it in the existing curricula
